Farm landscapes bordering on wilderness ….

Farms border often on wild spaces, uncultivated land and forests. It is often thought that these wild spaces have richer, deeper soils. In one study we examined fields (farmed in the Hudson family for over 200 years) versus their undisturbed forest edges. The result: more soil organic matter (humus) at depth.
